The port of Helsinki opened its new cargo harbour in the eastern part of the city on 28 November.  The old cargo harbour buildings will be used for housing and offices, and heavy traffic in the centre of Helsinki will be reduced.  The port offers the most frequent shipping services to the Northern European ports, and the motorway starts from the harbour gate, allowing freight to be distributed quickly and efficiently to the rest of Finland.
