After the four-day strike by pilots in France which ended at midnight last night, rail freight movements are now at risk of being disrupted by striking railway workers.  The pilots were protesting at the government’s plans to raise their retirement age from 60 to 65, as a result of which Air France anticipated it would have to cancel 50% of its flights.  The rail unions are also demonstrating against changes in working conditions; SNCF plans to introduce a new system of working hours for train drivers, with the aim of improving productivity.  Workers staged a one-day stoppage for the same reason earlier this month.
