Freight capacity on cross-Channel ferries was increased rapidly after the fire in the Tunnel last week.  Both of the main operators offered increased capacity for both passengers and freight, but are waiting to find out more before making a long-term commitment.  SeaFrance has two freight-only ferries and would be willing to increase the number of crossings. P&O Ferries has one freight-only vessel which is sailing as soon as loaded.  This may result in one or two additional sailings.  Ferry operators are used to being flexible to compensate for difficulties in other services.
