A consortium led by ‘Skills for Logistics’ has made a bid for funding from the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills.  The logistics and freight sector is the fifth largest sector in the economy and employes 8% of the workforce, but training has traditionally been fragmented and ad hoc.  The consortium hopes that the government will support a dedicated training academy, which will be unique to the UK.  There should be a formal funding decision at the end of this month.
