The Russian attack on Georgia at the beginning of the month could have a detrimental effect on the development of shipping in the region.  The conflict has made operators wary of using the port of Poti, even though it was re-opened a few days after the attack.  There are now concerns about the stability of the region, which means that shippers are now considering using ports in Russia and Ukraine as gateways to the region.
