The availability of pallet networks has encouraged shippers to think about consolidating their freight onto pallets and shipping less frequently.  As fuel costs increase, it makes financial sense to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by asking customers to accept larger shipments at longer intervals. However, there will always be a tension between the customer’s wish to minimise stockholdings, and the supplier’s wish to reduce freight costs. Pallet networks offer flexibility and national coverage, and their efficiency can be a threat to more traditional hauliers.
