Chengdu was in the news in May as the capital of earthquake-struck Province Sichuan in Southwest China. But the good news, is that Chengdu is to benefit from huge investment which will enable it to become a logistics hub for western China. One of the first steps in this process is the construction of a railway container centre station, which will have direct lines to major ports, including Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenbzhen, Qingdao and Tianjin. The transit time will be reduced from 5 or 6 days to 48 hours, helping manufacturers in western China to streamline their freight operations. Eventually this container centre will be the largest in Asia.
