The California Air Resources Board (CARB) www.arb.ca.gov introduced new rules at the end of 2007 that require vessels that make over 25 calls a year at the six Californian Ports of Hueneme, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego and San Francisco to use electricity supplied from shore when in port instead of running auxiliary engines. This will significantly reduce the ship’s carbon emissions whilst in port.
