The Freight Transport Association is developing a Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme through which signed-up members will commit to reduce the carbon footprint of their logistics operations by 8% by 2015. Hauliers are joined by third party logistics providers, freight companies, retailers and utilities, in an attempt to voluntarily reduce harmful emissions. Transport Minister Mike Penning said that this was the first scheme of it’s kind in the freight sector, and already covers nearly 40 000 vehicles. This will help to provide a detailed picture of the quantity and trend of carbon emissions by the freight industry.
