The Department for Transport has consulted with over 170 freight, logistics and retail organisations to produce a report recommending a two metre increase in the total length of articulated vehicles. No increase in overall weight would be allowed, but the extra length will allow freight hauliers to carry more pallets and therefore reduced their carbon emissions. The move could increase capacity for logistics operators carrying lighter goods by up to 13%.
