Whilst some airports are managing to remain open in Japan after the earthquake disaster last week, bookings at seaports have now been closed and logistics and freight suppliers are struggling to keep operations moving. Electricity blackouts in Tokyo affect communications and transport operations of all kinds, and express logistics and parcels companies have suspended services to and from the worst affected areas, particularly around Fukushima. North eastern Japan is particularly difficult to reach, but services in West Japan are operating with minimum impact, with daily flights able to carry freight continuing to operate in and out through Kansai International Airport. Tokyo and Yokohama ports remain open but disruption to rail and road is preventing full operations.
