A logisitics specialist has completed a transit of the Northwest Passage to test the feasibility of shipping freight through the previously un-navigable waters near to the Arctic Circle.  The Tor Viking II arrived in Hammerfest in Norway having navigated the freezing waters from Alaska to Norway.  The journey saved three weeks over the normal transit time via the Panama Canal.  It is expected that significant oil and gas extraction will take place in the new Arctic fields, which will naturally result in increased shipping and logistics activities to service the drilling platforms and crews.
