The USA is working with Romania and Moldova to increase Ukraine’s grain exports via the Danube river. It is exploring alternative routes for exports after Russia pulled out of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, a senior US State Department official said on Wednesday.
The original grain deal, brokered by Türkiye and the United Nations in July 2022, allowed for safe export of grain from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. Last month Moscow exited the deal, accusing the West of hampering Russia’s own grain and fertiliser exports.
