The EU has decided to ban imports of several products which they consider to be the ‘main drivers of deforestation’; this includes coffee, cocoa and soy.
The Commission considers that the new law will ensure that a set of important goods which are imported into EU countries will no longer contribute to deforestation. The list of banned imports includes palm oil, cattle, soy, coffee, cocoa, timber and rubber.
Companies which import these products will have to show that their products are deforestation-free and will have to provide the precise location of the source.
