UK’s apparel imports from India were $1.046 billion in January-August 2022, close to the imports of $1.094 billion in the whole of 2021. Imports this year are likely to surpass the pre-COVID level of $1.487 billion in 2019. Imports may increase further in the coming years when the bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) is implemented.
The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently agreed on taking forward the negotiations for the comprehensive UK-India free trade agreement.
The UK’s apparel imports from India had dropped to $0.973 billion in 2020 from $1.487 billion in 2019.
