The U.K. will postpone checks on food and fresh product imports from the EU until the end of 2023. The government has announced amendments to the post Brexit regime.
The controls would have been introduced in July this year, but the government said that the review will look at how to implement the remaining checks “in an improved way”.
This is the fourth time Britain has delayed the introduction of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) checks on EU imports. Ministers cited the need to give EU businesses more time to adapt, and for ports to build the necessary infrastructure.
