China is refusing to criticize Russia’s attack against Moscow and has approved imports of Russian wheat.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson told reporters “the Ukraine issue is complex in its historical background — what we are seeing today is the interplay of complex factors.”

Russia is one of the world’s biggest wheat producers, but exports would be vulnerable if import markets block shipments in response to its attack on Ukraine.
