Pandemic conditions have caused ocean freight to be disrupted by a global container shortage. Ocean freight rates have therefore increased, and air freight is still relatively expensive. Cross-border cargo train service between China and Europe has gained market share because of its relatively stable freight rates and delivery times.
The cross-border freight service exceeded expectations. From January to June, 7,323 freight trains ran between China and Europe, an increase of 43 percent year-on-year.
More than 1300 freight train per month ran in May and June.
