Freight volumes through the Port of Dover reached record levels for the fifth consecutive year in 2017, the south coast port has announced.
Dover handled over 2.6 million freight lorries in 2017 – an increase of almost 10,000 on the previous year. This brings the total increase over the last five years to just under 650,000 units or 33 per cent.
According to chief executive Tim Waggott, this sustained growth is proof that Dover continues to be the port of choice for freight travelling to and from Europe – the UK’s largest trading partner.
