The latest shrimp import figures show that shrimp demand in the US continues to accelerate, particularly in retail categories. To the end of October, 2017, total US shrimp imports stand at a record 1.19 billion pounds, compared with a figure of 1.08 billion lbs a year ago. This is a 10.4% increase.
Peeled raw shrimps are the main product, with Indian exports accounting for around 50% of all peeled raw imports. Total peeled imports were 508 million lbs., compared to 439 million the prior year.
