Imports of Rioja wine to the UK rose 10.3% by volume year on year in 2014. Total exports of the wine reached a record 106 million litres. The UK imported more than a third of this volume.
Most of the growth in exports was in the cheapest red, while exports of the more expensive types grew more modestly. Exports of white and rose Rioja were actually lower than in the previous year.
The next two largest export markets after the UK are Germany and the USA. Strong exports growth came from Mexico and Russia.
