An innovative design of 50ft rail freight containers is being used for the first time in the UK with the start of a new service between Daventry and Grangemouth.
The 50ft container was launched earlier this year at April’s Multimodal freight industry event. This freight service is in addition to the existing Daventry to Mossend route which has been running since early April. The new cargo routing will transport goods seven-days-a-week for a large number of high profile retailers and manufacturers.
This new freight service means that the major traffic flows to Grangemouth will remain on rail, which the operators say will produce a saving of over 13 million road miles per year.
