From November to Mid January an alliance of shipping lines has announced that it will cancel seven sailings from Asia to the Mediterranean. Demand for freight from Europe is falling, and is expected to be even lower in the winter months. Container statistics show that volume has fallen by about 16% on the Asia to western Mediterranean and North African destinations.
