Exports to the most troubled parts of the Eurozone, such as Spain and Greece, are falling as consumer demand in these countries shrinks due to economic difficulties. Spain and Greece are still exporting seasonal fruits to the UK, but many logistics carriers are having to return empty or with low-paying loads as austerity stricken customers are no longer demanding imports.
Prestige goods at the top end of the market are still being exported, but other exports are in decline as mid-income families try to reduce expenditure.
