The Freight Transport Association has condemned George Osborne’s refusal to forego a fuel duty increase in August. In a press release last month, the Association said that research had shown that a city in diesel duty would create 175 000 jobs with no loss of Exchequer revenue. The planned increase will cause an average increase in lorry operating costs of about £1200 per year.
This will have a knock-on effect, making the cost of all goods more expensive.
