Earlier this week, the new North Rail project was officially launched at the port of Felixstowe. This will be the third rail terminal at the UK’s largest freight container port and the first able to handle 30-wagon freight trains, capable of carrying 90teu.

The port currently moves around 750,000teu of freight a year and the new terminal will eventually double its intermodal capacity.

Under Secretary of State for Transport Mike Penning said:
“It shows that rail freight continues to thrive with private sector investment through difficult economic conditions, bringing benefits to road users and the wider population as well as the customers directly served.”
