Liege airport in Belgium saw a significant increase in cargo volumes last year in spite of gloomy economic conditions.

Freight volumes through the airport increased by 5.5% over the previous year, because operators at the airport are concentrating on expanding their business activities.  In December, Liege handled 55 808 tonnes of freight, a 6.7% increase from December 2010. Officials are expecting further increases, as Swissport is expanding its cargo warehouse.
