Shipping services suffered delays on Monday when public sector workers went on strike in protest against austerity measures.  The management of the Port of Antwerp said that they regretted that a strike which has nothing to do with the port should cause so much disruption.

Further action cannot be ruled out and is likely to affect both inland freight and shipping.
