The Scottish Government and Transport Scotland plans to announce proposals which should keep freight and passengers mowing in the event of a freeze.  Large sections of the country were at a standstill last winter, leading to frustration for motorists and disruption of the logistics supply chain.

Measures may include stacking lorries at the side of a road while gritters do their work, asking firms to invest in “winter tyres” and a campaign to promote safe winter driving.

The Freight Transport Association has asked the government to give more details of its plans, claiming that stocks of food and fuel could run out unless they take more robust action before winter.
