Air freight recovery
May’s air freight figures showed signs of recovery after the hiatus caused by the Icelandic volcano ash. Growth in air freight volumes increased to 34.3%, compared with 26% in April. The weakest growth was in Europe, but it is hoped that the 15% fall in the value of the Euro will stimulate exports and increase outbound freight traffic. Airlines are expected to show a profit in 2010, in contrast to the 9.9 billion USD loss in 2009.
