Volumes through Hong Kong were 18*% higher in November 2009 than in the previous year. Freight forwarders and shippers have been suffering from the lack of capacity since the middle of last year, and the increase has had to be serviced by trans-shipping via Singapore, Thailand and Korea. The growing economy in China is the main reason for the increase, but China's traditional export market in the West is still depressed. Air freight is essential to areas such as Shenzhen which specialise in electronic assembly, but apart from this China imports raw materials by seafreight.
