Shipping lines reduce prices
Shipping lines have reacted to the unfavourable economic climate of 2009 by reducing capacity and prices. This means that the shipping fleet is aging and there is little spare capacity to cope with expected increases in container transport. Some industry pundits are forecasting growth in the industry of 4 - 5%; if this happens, shipping lines will have to increase capacity to keep up with the demand.
